1. Check the Signer’s ID

First things first: always verify the person signing the document. We want to make sure the person or persons are who they say they are. A government issued ID, passport or driver’s license, should do the trick. If they can’t show valid ID. Without proper identification we cannot proceed with the notarization. Our job as notary publics is to make sure the signer is signing voluntarily and fully understands what they are signing. If we notice any signs of pressure or confusion. We would not be willing to complete a notarization. Everyone should be signing on their own terms and with a clear mind. Notarizing documents in such a case could make the notarization invalid. The notary could face legal penalties for completing a notarization when the person lacks full clarity.


3. Get Familiar with the Document

We are not legal experts and cannot ensure the truthfulness or validity of a document. Only that a person has appeared before us and sworn that the document and it's content are true.


4. Fill Out the Notarial Certificate


The notarial certificate is the official part of the process where we confirm the completetion of the notarization. It’s important to fill it out properly, with all the correct details like the signer’s name, the date, and the document being notarized. Once we have signed and stamped your notary certificate everything is good to go!


5. Keep a Journal

In our journal, jotting down key details like the date, type of document, the signer's info, and how we have verified their ID. Has kept us organized and provided a record in case anything ever comes up later.
